Emmaus Exit

(41 downloads)

Download this episode (8 min)
When we come to receive the Lord in the Eucharist, our eyes become open and we recognize Jesus Christ for who He is, the Eternal Word, the Savior and the truly risen Messiah who has broken the power of sin and death. The commemoration of the Pashal Mystery in the the breaking of the bread is the place that continually helps us make sense of a world that has misleading expectations. We must “exit” here every Sunday to make sense of a broken world. It is here that we recognize our human experiences for what they are—a dying and rising to new life continually through our own lives. Jesus then becomes the way for us to reconcile those feelings of dismay and devestation in our life.

God's Short Memory

(33 downloads)

Download this episode (7 min)
Have we, "rejoiced with indescribable and glorious joy?" When St. Peter says this in today's 2nd reading, he meant it! The disciples were imperishable, undefiled and unfaded. Why? They realized that through the wounds of Christ they have been healed! They came to faith, they came to believe! Even St. Thomas came to believe and not only believe in the resurrection but to believe that they were forgiven! Our memories run long and deep, but Christ's memory of our sin is short--if we ask for forgiveness. He returns to the disciples in his resurrected body and says, "Peace be with you." He does not lay into them for what they did or failed to do. Jesus goes on to say, "Who's sins you forgive, they will be forgiven, whose sins you retain, they will be retained." Jesus hands on this short memory through the comissioning of the sacrament of confession. We need not hang onto our woundedness. We need not hold our clenched fist against the grace of God. We not point fingers at others and make excuses for our own misdeeds and sins. We must open our hands and place them in the side of Christ. We must point our finger and place in the wound of His hands. We musn't hold onto these memories that haunt us. We musn't be trapped in rooms of fear. Jesus busts through the doors and offers us peace. Will we accept it? Will we believe that we are forgiven? Will we trust in His mercy?

Bound up or Bound for Greatness?

(47 downloads)

Download this episode (10 min)
Lazarus was brought back to life. Have we been brought back to life? Jesus tells Martha and to us that He is the, "resurrection and the life." All too often, however, we find ourselves enslaved to our own sin. Maybe we've had a near death experience in our lives, but maybe our whole life is one big near death experience. We find ourselves dead in the water, bound to sin. Like Lazarus, we find ourselves deep within a cave of fears bound by sin and not even knowing it. But Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead and He wants to bring us back to life. When we acknowledge our sin, turn away from sin we can then be bound by something much different--GREATNESS!

We are worthy!

(68 downloads)

Download this episode (10 min)
We adore you or Christ and we praise you! Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world. What does it mean to be redeemed. Essentially it means to be rescued, to be saved. We are all thirsty to be redeemed, but what do we try to find our redemption in? Our thrist is that of the thrist for God! Our deepest desire is to be loved and the only thing that will quench this thirst is the love of God as given to us through Jesus Christ. The story of the woman at the well is a story of redemption whereby we overcome our inclination to feel unworthy, recognize Jesus, and finally spread the Good News!

EVANGELIZE!

(55 downloads)

Download this episode (11 min)
To evangelize is to share the gift of eternal life with another person! Like the disciples, we must come down the mountain to share what we've seen. At the same time, however, we must believe in the resurrection of Christ. We must convert in order to have the desire in our own hearts to spread the Gospel--this Good News.

Oblivious to Eye-Opening

(49 downloads)

Download this episode (10 min)
Are we oblivious to sin? Or do we examine our conscious regularly? The Church's "hell-bent" (excuse the pun) insistence on recognition of sin is not a downer--a thwart against the desire to live the better life. Rather, recognition of our own sinfulness and its ramifications will lead to the deep life--a life fully alive. Jesus' jaunt into the desert is a confrontation with evil, with a demon, with sin. It didn't destroy Him and it won't destroy us. Our transgressions have been acquitted by righteous "J" the One who reverses Adam's no and gives us a YES to eternal life. This Lent, will we be oblivious to our sinfulness and be half backed or acknowledge our sin and open our eyes? Let's face those demons, enter the desert, and come destroy death becoming victorious in life!

Dive in, be Transformed, & be Empowered!

(80 downloads)

Download this episode (7 min)
In the next 10-15 years, our Diocese will go from having 120 active priests to well under 80 active priests. What does this mean? WE HAVE TO LIVE OUT OUR OWN CALLINGS TO HOLINESS THROUGH BAPTISM! The question that John the Baptist had for Jesus is a question that all of us has, "How is it that you come to me to be baptized?" Jesus is asking us to be co-ministers with Him! By entering into the deep waters of baptism, He is calling us to go deep, to enter more fully into our responsibility to share the gospel with others through the same baptism. Co-ministers, not co-pilots! Let us pray to dive-in to our faith, to be transformed from a life of sin and death, and to be empowered to invite others into that same relationship with Jesus Christ, that same baptism that changed our lives forever.
